If you are reading this, you already know that the migration of our blog from shilshole.svsoliton.net to www.shilsholecommunity.org is in progress.
It’s not complete yet, and it wasn’t as seamless as I had hoped, but in the long run I think it will be worth it.
I hope to be able to allow old links to the shilshole.svsoliton.net domain to keep working.

Well, sort of. Stuart Raaka (flute) and Bill Charney (guitar) are from B Dock. Except for her bandmates, singer Lida Maria has no known connection with B Dock. The jazz, blues pop trio is called “Extension,” and if you stay up later than we do you can hear them play at various nearby locations. Fortunately for us, they have cut a CD. I told Stuart that I would post a small sample on our blog or on the Shilshole Blog, but I find that my technical ability ends at ripping the CD onto my hard drive in mp3 format. Maybe Fulvio can help?
Anyway, maybe the entertainment committee for the building’s going away party should audition them ….

The only motion passed in yesterday’s regular meeting of the Port Commission dealt with the renewal of the purchasing contract (Microsoft Enterprise Agreement) for software licensing and services. The tab: $1,190,000 over three years. Read the memo here.

Here’s an idea: the old marina building is going to come down sometime in July. Why not have a big celebration in or around it, on one of the days just before the demolition starts?
We’ll have a planning meeting for all those who have ideas and/or are interested in organizing this. I also talked about it with the good folks at sustainableballard.org, who have shown great ability in putting together community events.
In the meantime, can we please have a show of hands?

“It looked just like the Titanic,” he said. “You could hear this loud, sucking noise. … I was terrified.”
Abyssinia has links to the Canadian news sites (here and here), and here are our local ones:
Wikipedia:Queen of the North implies that the ferry actually hit Gil Island.

This blog is celebrating its first birthday in a few days!
For the occasion, we will be moving to a new domain and getting a shiny new look!
From its inception, this site has always been about community, a place where anyone who belongs to Shilshole in one way or another can and should feel like an owner. Initially, the Shilshole Blog was an experiment, hence the somewhat private nature of the domain svsoliton.net. And since we survived an entire year, with no sign of slowing down, thanks to our handful of posters and readers, it is time to make our home more permanent.
The new URL will be:
www.shilsholecommunity.org
The move is as symbolic as it is essential.
A subsequent announcement will follow when the move is complete. The old URL should continue to work for the next several months.

I’m wondering who made the decision to move the fuel/pumpout dock to the pinch point of the fairway. Seems like a REALLY bad location given how heavy traffic around those facilities can get – there’s going to be a lot less room to maneuver. Not only that, but last weekend I found as we were coming into the marina from the south past the fuel dock heading toward K, that I couldn’t even see the fuel dock at all til I was pretty much right there because it’s hidden from view behind the vessels moored at the end of G. I won’t be surprised if there are going to be a lot of close calls or collisions once the fuel dock reopens. From now on I’ll be coming back in from the north, especially if it’s a Sunday afternoon.

It was handed to the dock captains at the meeting last night. Did anyone else know that there was a meeting last night or a rate increase in the works?
