Darwin

Its been a long time since I sent anything to you but I’ve been busy! I’ve been in Darwin three weeks now and will be finally leaving Australia for Indonesia at the end of this week. Darwin’s a beautiful little city. It’s winter here so its in the 90’s every day instead of the 100’s of summer, and it’s dry. Haven’t had any rain in a couple months now. Rhiannon is almost ready to go. I still have to dive the boat to clean the bottom. Some of the other cruisers are taking bets on how long I’ll last until I become a croc meal but the bottom has to be cleaned so…
I’m anchored 3/4 mile from shore and still Rhiannon almost touches bottom on the low low tides. Its a long row to the beach but great exercise.
I’ve been in Australia about 8 months now and I’m really looking forward to another country. I’ll let you know what Kupang, Indonesia is like when I get there next week! It’s about a 450 nm sail!

The Fascination of Learning to Sail

Published by fulvio under Shilshole

Hello, folks!

in case you were wondering – the Shilshole Blog is alive and well, but work had me quite a bit busier than usual lately. That’s no reason for everyone else to step back, too, though! ;)

For now, until I get out of the crunch, I’m just going to point out other interesting reads I stumble across. Here is a nice article on today’s Seattle Times:

A novice sailor unfazed by gusts of fate – by Eric Sorensen

Incidentally, has anyone read the story cited in the article? (”The Sea and the Wind that Blows” by E.B. White, from The Greatest Sailing Stories Ever Told)
