I remember there were plans(?) for a demolition party for the old marina building that was supposed to be torn down back in July. Is there still a plan for a party for the upcoming demolition of the building this month or next?

Unofficially we won’t have to move until mid to late October. We’ll get three notices before being asked to moved. And we could be out of a permanent slip for a full year. Ahhhh, back to the Shilshole Shuffle!

Sustainable Ballard is looking for a salty story-teller for the upcoming Sustainability Fest, on October 1st. Among the many workshops, demos and classes featured in nine activity tents, a “transportation alley” with an assortment of vehicular options, a “community” area to explore local, sustainable businesses and non-profits, and a central tent mainstage to provide enterntainment or just “hang” with the neighbors, there will be some Haida Nation stories, narrated by Fred Lauth, some Nordic stories, and more, “fun” stories with Beth Hollingsworth. If you, or someone you know, would like to add some sea-faring, fishing, or sailing stories to the lineup, it would be a wonderful way for many people to re-connect to the maritime tradition of Ballard and the region. The stories can be as participatory as you like (I’m thinking – hand gear around to the kids in the audience, like shackles, pieces of rope, chain, etc, teach them to tie knots, … stuff like that).
If interested, please call me at 206-295-6086, or contact Ann Scheerer at the SB website (www.sustainableballard.org).
