Bike storage problems at Shilshole (BNT – Tuesday, February 27, 2007)

And while we are on the topic, who would like to win a “Cities Enjoy Bicycles” Award?  (hint: don’t apply if you don’t have bike racks)

Last night’s liveaboard meeting

Published by dogbark under Shilshole

Thanks to all who attended the meeting last night at CYC.  We had a good turnout of 75(est.) folks and some good, long overdue discussions.  As with most democratic processes, there is some tedium, but most stuck through it and we affirmed the four current officers plus three additions, Chuck Gold (O-dock), Curtis Wood (G-dock) and Teresa Baker (P-dock) to try to work out a basis for a renewed liveaboard agreement with the port.  We are working on a set of bylaws and goals for the association.  We will have another meeting in about one month’s time.  Stay tuned for more info, Al

The City of Portland’s Office of Transportation has an interesting (and printable) page about locating bicycle parking here.  A good photo of Portland’s bicycle locker is here.

Volunteers Needed for Shilshole Bicycle Storage Project

Published by fulvio under Port Relations, Shilshole, bikes

In advance of the meeting scheduled by Ed Button for March 4th, it would be good to do some prep work. At the last dock captain’s meeting, several people expressed interest in helping out, so I’m now issuing an appeal. Continue Reading »

Liveaboard meeting at CYC

Published by dogbark under Shilshole

There will be a meeting at CYC at 7 pm on Monday the 26th to discuss renewing an agreement governing liveaboards at Shilshole with the Port.  For more discussion see previous posts. All Shilshole liveaboards are invited, most questions will be answered, all ideas will be heard, some tactics will be discussed.  Please be there if you have any input at all, but it is not the only place or time for thoughts.  I can also be reached at slip N*5 or dogbark184@yahoo.com.  Please no food, drink or pets in the clubhouse.  Thanks, Al Hughes

Meeting with Ed Button

Published by fulvio under Port Relations, Shilshole, bikes

I received the following email from Ed:

There is a meeting scheduled for Sunday, March 4th, 1 to 3 pm at the Corinthian Yacht Club to discuss bike storage at the marina. I have sent Kevin Carrabine (Sunset Hill Community Ass’n, Sustainable Ballard) a message informing him of the date and time also. There is a lot of interest from the boating community at Shilshole in long term storage. We will be informing the boating community at Shilshole about the meeting. I hope you will be able to attend and provide your point of view.

Technology Aids in Search for Missing Sailor

Published by fulvio under Other Places

I break my regular stream of posts on bicycle storage to comment on the “Missing Sailor” signs that have appeared on our bullettin boards this weekend.

Jim Gray, the sailor reported missing, is a big name in academic computer science, as well as in the software industry (see wikipedia for a good list of links, as well as his personal page at Microsoft Research). You can read about his disappearance on lots of websites, if you are interested. What I want to write about is the response of lots of people to the news of his disappearance. Continue Reading »
