Soon! Bike Storage

Published by fulvio under Port Relations, Shilshole, bikes

It’s been two and a half months, but the colorful bike signs which first made their appearance on the CYC gangway are back! This time, it was Sharon Briggs herself who used them to adorn the meeting room in the Shilshole Marina building last week for the Bicycle Advisory Panel Meeting. Since March 4th, Sharon, Ed and others have been busy: they took all the public input from that first meeting to the port management and the commission, and officially got a project manager assigned to work on the bicycle storage issue. Her name is Anne Porter, and she, as many will recall, was the original Project Manager for the marina reconstruction, and is therefore intimately familiar with the overall history and design of the marina. Apart from that, they put a lot of research into all the options that were proposed on 4.3, and finally got back to us with the results of their efforts and their recommendations. Continue Reading »

Bike Bags

Published by Apple under Shilshole

Not to advertise, but Lisa and I found these bike bags on the web and decided to order a pair to help with storage and protection on the dock. They are high quality nylon fabric with a waterproof liner. They have lifting handles and loops near the base for hanging. The zipper is metalic, so we plan to keep it lubricated. Our hybrids fit great in the bags. We are very pleased with the product and wanted to alert the masses. The bags were $75 plus shipping. The service was also very good. Sandy was responsive to any questions and shipping by USPS was quick.

Mayotte

I’m on the beautiful little group of islands that are called Mayotte. Its a French possession about 200 miles off the NW corner of Madagascar. Since Mayotte is French, it means that there’s some good wine to be had, but it also means that everything is in Euros! Not much advantage in having US dollars here! It was a fairly easy sail from the Seychelles to here. The winds were often light but there were frequent squalls with winds in the 25-35 range and lots of rain. The oddest thing about the passage was that there were a number of areas where the significant current would cause steep breaking waves without any wind to drive them. Having breaking waves when there’s wind is natural and a fair trade but having breaking waves when there’s no wind is unnatural and just not fair! Very uncomfortable too! The cruising guides say its very expensive here but I’m finding it to be a good place to provision! There’s also a Yacht Club where a couple of the guys speak some English and the beer if cold and cheap! I spend a lot of time there! I expect to leave Mayotte at the end of the month and sail to Hell-ville, on the island of Nosy-Be, in Madagascar.

The soundoff discussion has been pretty lively, too.
