Port Commission Meeting re: Restroom Construction

Update 2-26-19: Funding Approved

Next Tues, Feb 26th, is the Port of Seattle Commission Meeting.  Among the many topics is the request by Shilshole to increase the construction funding to meet the lowest bid and to finish our restrooms and paving.  If you have the time, please try to attend the meeting.

February 26, 2019. To be held at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport –Conference Center at Sea-Tac.  12:00 noon –PUBLIC SESSION

“Authorization for $2,900,000 in additional construction funds to advertise a major works construction project for the Shilshole Bay Marina Customer Service Facilities and Paving projects for a total project authorization of $15,000,000”

Seaview Temporary Stoplight and Construction

By now you may have seen/been stopped by the temporary light  near the railroad bridge.  This is necessary to allow heavy equipment on the roadway to complete the emergency sewer connection to Magnolia.  In 2017, the pipe broke under the ship canal and leaked raw sewage into the canal.  sewage spill and repair.

Road detour and repairs should take about 2 months.

Major Snow Event and your Neighbors

Good morning, neighbors…as you know, we have a major snow event coming this weekend and sticking around through next week. The accumulation predictions have been from 7-12 inches. As we are all aware, but it doesn’t hurt to be reminded of: Be careful walking the docks, and don’t be afraid to ask your neighbors for help. Check in on those that you don’t see regularly or have limited mobility.  Don’t drive if you don’t have to. Use common sense with your space heaters and don’t use extension cords with them! Shut off your water heater breaker when running the electric heaters. Make sure CO and smoke detectors batteries are in good shape. Stay warm and dry.

You have today and tomorrow morning to make final preparations.
• Make sure you have enough food to last the week+
• Top off your water tanks while the hoses are defrosted
• Top off your diesel
• Check/clean your space heaters
• Add extra dock lines and secure your tarps for the possible high winds that are predicted again
• When it warms up and starts to melt, make sure your scuppers are clear to drain
• Top off your car gas tank in case you get stuck out driving, and have water, snacks, blankets and boots in the car

Port/Dock Captain Meeting Feb 13th

This is your opportunity to hear the latest updates from the Port regarding security, construction, proposed changes, and any other issues concerning Shilshole Marina.  All dock captains are required to attend and all marina tenants are welcome!

The 2019 Port/Dock Captain Meetings will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on

Emergency Preparedness

Last night there was a presentation at CYC from the City of Seattle Dept of Emergency Preparation.  About 30 marina residents and a couple Sunset West condo residents attended and were given an overview of what to do to prepare yourself for a major earthquake here at Shilshole.  Tsunamis are what most people think of, but with the location of Shilshole this far down the Salish Sea, we most likely will see a surge or higher than normal water levels-no crashing rolling tsunami wave.

Caffe Fioré is now Fiore Sunset Hill, opens 1/14

The long wait is over: Fiore Sunset Hill will opens its doors on Monday, Jan. 14 at 6am. (at the top of the Golden Gardens stairs at 32 and 85th.)

The cafe is reopening after more than a year hiatus, caused by a fire in 2017 that also badly damaged their neighbors, Cocina Esperanza. It’s rebranded — Caffe Fioré is now Fiore Sunset Hill, independently owned by Deming Maclise and different from the other three Caffe Fiorés, which are now owned and operated by Caffe Vita.
