Daylight Saving Time Starts Sunday, March 8
Remember to set those clocks that don’t automatically set themselves. My chart plotter is one that I usually forget to adjust from being UTC-8 to UTC-7 until a month afterwards.
Snow/Freeze Event
It’s our first snow/freeze event of the winter and is not expected to be very bad, but things can change quickly overnight….

- If you have permanent water hookup to the dock, please contact the marina office to get a waiver signed so they don’t disconnect you at an inopportune time
- Please check on your neighbors, especially the elderly or those with limited mobility and if you need help yourself, don’t hesitate to ask for help from either your neighbors or the Port staff at 206-601-4089.
- Be careful with space heaters-don’t use them with extension cords! Turn off your water heater breaker at night so you can have more amps and won’t blow your main breaker.
- Be careful walking the docks-stay in the middle.
- Be patient with the Pumpout services…if the marina pumps are frozen, they can’t use them either.
- Keep your water tanks topped off in case your hose freezes
- Don’t drive if you don’t have to, but top off your car gas tank in case you get stuck out driving, and have water, snacks, blankets and boots in the car.
- When it warms up and starts to melt, make sure your scuppers are clear to drain.

Seattle Boat Show, Jan 30th – Feb 7th
If you own a boat, want a boat, if you need something for your boat or just have questions…. The boat show is for you! Take the time to go-you might find what you are looking for. The marina office usually has 2 complimentary tickets per slip, while supplies last.
There are a wide variety of seminars that cover everything from fishing & crabbing to engine maintenance to cruising Desolation Sound….
Winter Dock/Pier Clean up
The Port is walking the docks and identifying unauthorized items on the docks and finger piers. You will get an email notice from them if you are not in compliance. Please be proactive and clean up your area beforehand. Thank you for helping keep this a nice place to moor and live!
- The Port has a great haz-mat recycling program! Used oil, diesel and hydraulic fluid goes in tank near restroom; used batteries, gasoline, and antifreeze/coolant go to Hazmat Box down near Seaview Boatyard (south)
- Garbage goes in the green compactor container; all recycling goes in the other containers.
- Please put your donated stuff (items you no longer need but don’t want to toss) near the dumpster and not at the gate (and not in the laundry room), so more people can see them.
New Year reminders…
- The Seattle Boat Show will be held from Jan 30th-Feb 7th. Check out their website for schedule and seminars.
- 2026 Parking Passes are available for pick up in the office (you will need photo id) and need to be placed on the lower driver’s side windshield. Also, make sure your car tabs are current, especially if you leave your car while cruising or travelling.

Happy Winter Solstice!
Today marks the shortest day of the year, with lots of ancient traditions. The sun will rise around 7:55 a.m. and set around 4:20 p.m. on Dec. 21, giving Seattleites just a precious 8 hours, 25 minutes and 25 seconds of daylight to enjoy on winter solstice.
But…it also means every day is now getting longer and we are on our way to summer!
