Golden Gardens Drive Evacuation Route

As you know, Golden Gardens Drive up the hill from the park is closed 24/7 until further notice  due to Mayor Durkan’s Safe Streets Initiative.  That is fine for upland neighborhoods that have access on all sides of their homes, but for those of us here at Shilshole and the Sunset West Condos, plus all the visitors to the park; Golden Garden’s Drive is an essential route of escape in case of any local emergency/disaster like a marina fire, a train derailment or earthquake/tsunami/landslide.

We need to get this road re-opened.  Please express your concerns to the Seattle Dept. of Transportation at StayHealthyStreets@Seattle.gov

Crabbing in Puget Sound

This year, the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife has put some severe restrictions on crabbing in Puget Sound and the San Juan’s.  Area 10 (just off Shilshole) is scheduled to open Sunday July 12. Will be open Sundays and Mondays only through Labor Day September 7.  Be sure to check their site for opening dates, days of the week, closures, etc.

a couple reminders..

  • you need a license and catch record card-available at Fred Meyer or West Marine
  • please keep only legal crab
  • your contact info needs to be on your pots
  • pots need to be out of the water on days closed

Golden Gardens Drive Closed

Mayor Durkan has closed Golden Gardens Drive (the road up the hill from the park) to all vehicles.  Since the Golden  Gardens parking lot continues to remain closed to the public, even more people will be parking on the street and in the marina parking lot and the only vehicle access to the park will be from the south end of Seaview Ave.

A Couple Reminders…

We don’t need the additional stress right now of forgetting something we could have taken care of…

  • Your 2021 Boat Registration is due on your boat by June 30th.
  • The 2020 marina permit is due on your vehicle by June 15th
  • The parking lot repaving will continue for the next couple months, so if you are going to be gone for awhile, contact the marina office to see where you should park so you wont be towed.
  • Be sure your car tabs don’t expire while you are gone.

San Juans are open for boating!

Per their website, the San Juan’s are now welcoming boaters. …
  • Out of county boaters are requested to provision at their home ports and limit time ashore on the ferry-served islands until we are in Phase 3.
  • Overnight moorage is open at 50% capacity at marinas and ports on the four ferry-served islands. Please make reservations before showing up at marinas and ports to ensure they may accommodate you.
Canada is closed til June 21st.  Please check their website before making plans.

Parking in the Marina

Parking has always been a challenge at the marina, but even more so these days with the construction/paving and Golden Gardens closure.  A big thank you to the Port for closing off some of the entrances, the additional signage and increased enforcement.

As the paving project moves south, please be aware of the closures and patiently adapt to the frustrations and inconveniences that ensue.  They are only temporary and things will be much better when they are done.

New parking enforcement will be taking place soon…please pay attention to the changes.  As recently announced by the Port, (contact your dock captain if you haven’t heard):

  • The outer 2 rows (white markings) near the street will be free for marina guest parking. All else (blue markings) will be paid permit parking.
  • The 1 free parking 2020 permit will be mailed out to tenants that haven’t received theirs yet. The 2nd one can be paid for over the phone and picked up in the office-call first. You have til June 15th to get your permits and after that, the Port will begin towing.

A reminder-vehicles need to be moved every 15 days.  If you will be gone cruising for longer than that, please contact the marina office and then park in the outer rows as courtesy to your neighbors that are still here.

Coast Guard i911 Location Service

The Coast Guard has a new technology available to find you faster through i911.  The i911 system is a free service. No application download is needed.

The Coast Guard can send a text message to the mariner’s cell phone requesting permission to access the GPS location information; all the mariner needs to do is enable location information in their smartphone settings and click the link provided in the text message.
