Update! The court is done! The Marina office had to do a little shrubbery removal on the south side of the office building so they built a bocce ball court for the marina tenants. The game is fun and easy for all ages. The office has equipment for checkout. Here are the rules…
There are several sites that post the current prices of fuel in the Puget Sound area. Here are a couple…..

Most marinas sell ethanol free gas (better for your outboards, generators). Some marinas have shallow water access at low tide-sailboats beware. Many also have pumpout stations. Call the marinas for verification of these.
Hello Fellow Boaters,
It may have come to your attention that our blog postings has slowed to a near stop. While it is the season to take a trip away from the dock and we have fewer folks around the Marina some of us have been just run out of time and ideas. I am speaking for myself at this moment. I would really like to see more posts, if you value the blog as means of communication please join in. This site sat dormant for along time, years in fact.
Please post. You can tell about a recent experience, ideas and even questions.
By the way, Shilshole Prepares has had a major shift in the force behind it in the last month. Jim Doub has moved to Edmonds Marina with his lovely Sharon. He has a few days a month here at Shilshole while his liveaboard status is confirmed at Edmonds, but he felt it was time to let others take over the program he helped to shape and care for. If you know Jim then you know he is a hard man to keep up with. The quality of his work and his heart will be sorely missed. Thank you, Jim for all that you did to keep us prepared.
The Liveaboard Association’s Board has assumed the task of maintaining the Shilshole Prepares page of the Shilshole Blog. Meetings with City of Seattle and other agencies, up dates and drill as well as information will handled by the various board members, however we could use some additional people to help out.
Volunteering is a little like orienteering there are obstacles, but please don’t that worry you. It is worth it and you might even have fun!

Warren Buck with the President
All of us know the President was in town last week. It is a good bet that few of us knows anyone who meet the President when he was in town. As it happens,
one of our fellow live aboard tenants did just that. His wife Cate Buck arranged for him to meet the President. Warren Buck is a distinguished Physics Professor at the UW. Soon to be retired. He was recently appointed to the Board of Regents of William and Mary University in the State of Virginia. Way to go Warren! I have known Warren and Cate for a couple of years now and I have to say they really are a Dynamic Duo.
Here are some proposals for the completion of the Ballard Missing Link on the Burke Gilman Trail….
SDOT is hosting two open houses; on July 14, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and July 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Leif Erikson Hall (2245 NW 57th St) to hear public feedback about the options.
Here are the notes from the meeting. The main presentation from the Fire Dept is rescheduled for a later date. The next Dock Captain meeting is Sept 13th, 6-8 pm, CYC clubhouse. All dock captains are required to be there and all tenants are invited.

ReSail is a program to recycle used sails to keep them out of landfills and to benefit people in Mexico and the South Pacific . Please check out the attached flyer…
On June 11, 2016 we at Shilshole Liveaboard Association celebrated the life style and life choices we have made by participating in National Marina Day here at Shilshole Bay Marina. A Tour of Four Liveaboard Boats was staged at H-Dock for the benefit of the general public. The objective was to share what it is like to be a liveaboard. To make our community as liveaboards more retentive in the City of Seattle. We welcomed the public to our homes, talk to an home/boat owner and to experience what it is to live aboard a boat.
I want to personally thank those who offered there boats to be toured: Ned Kohlhauff SV Bristol Blue, Jim and Sharon Doub SV The Neighborhood, Kirk Utter SV Teaser II, and Fred Felleman MV Leschi. I would like to thank the Staff of Shilshole Bay Marina and the Marina Day Committee, you made the day a big success.
There were many new liveaboards who visited the booth I manned to answer questions about the Shilshole Liveaboard Association. To all of you welcome to Shilshole. Please come the Dock Captain’s Meeting on Tuesday June 14 at CYC . It starts at 6 pm and goes to 8 pm.
Lastly, I asked at least 3 of the boat owners who participated how many people came aboard their boat. The answer varied. Ned on Bristol Blue said he stopped counting at 70 something. People reportedly came in groups 5-10. They started wanting to come aboard before the start time of 12 noon, but they did stop around 4:30 pm.
I will conclude this by saying next year we will likely have a tour again. Think about bringing your boat over to H-Dock. It is fun and it does help the public understand who we are.

For those of you who have read my blog on varnishing this season. I want to add a couple of notes on how to get a hold of the varnish I use Le Tonkinois. You may try getting it from the Northwest Maritime Center 360-385-3628 in Port Townsend. They use it and sell it. I have found that it is easier and faster to get it from American Rope and Tar out of San Diego, CA. I have added a link to American Rope and Tar under Other in the link section of this Blog.
There are a few other things to remember about this varnish. You do not thin it down. No sanding between coats. Re-coat in 24 hours. Six coats recommended rather than three. It can be applied over any other varnish, provided you sand before the first coat of Le Tonkinois. One fun thing is it comes in a square or rectangle can so it is easy to store. Happy Varnishing 2016.
Rain held off! Great crowd! Great music! A big thank you to the Port/Shilshole Marina and everyone who participated!
