City of Seattle forces Ballard Kayak to move off the water at Shilshole due to the new Shoreline Management rules. See attached KIRO video for details…
You may have noticed that five trees have been removed from the Marina. I asked the Marina staff about the missing trees and this what I was told: one of the trees was removed to accommodate the expansion of Seaview Boatyard, all the others were removed because they were dead or had some kind disease that was killing them. I asked Kathy Goodman if they were being replaced. She answered that when she receives the report and recommendation from the Port’s arborist /gardener, J.D., she would know more details, but as far as she knows, all the trees will be replaced. She indicated there may even be more trees planted! So, it looks like we can look forward to more trees here at the Marina.
For as long as I have been here at Shilshole, Cecil the sea serpent, has been standing on the breakwater wall. I love sailing home and seeing him, just motoring through the marina past him brings a smile to my face. It has been roughly six weeks since we have had the Shilshole Blog up and running again, it is a good time to updated the banner. In addition to the banner image change, the page titles will also be updated. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.
Over the last few weeks it has become clear that theft is up here at the Marina. Identifying the social and economic causes for the thefts are numerous and would take more time than I can devote to it. The short form is that there are thieves in marina parking lots, in and out of laundry room and in some cases mail is being taken.
Bad news travels fast, rumors can run rampant, I do not want to add to the issues. I have spent a couple weeks gathering information on the condition of the Security @ Shilshole Marina. This is what I have learned:
It is time for the new parking sticks for your vehicles. They are available at the marina office now. The first one is at no cost, the second one will cost you $20.00 for each month that remains in the year, so if you get yours in February it will cost $220.00 for the year. The marina prefers that the sticker be placed on the driver side window in the front. The second option is the rear window on the driver’s side.
Remember to pick up your Seattle Boat Show ticket too, one per boat this year.
The focus this evening was on security in the marina due to the rash of car thefts, bike thefts, and vehicle smash and grabs. It was more of a roundtable discussion for everyone to express their concerns and hear any Port suggestions. Many suggestions are common-sense, but need repeating.
