A Big Thank You…

…to Stephanie, Darrell and all the staff at SBM and the Port of Seattle that provided a wonderful evening of food, holiday lights competition and customer appreciation for the tenants of Shilshole. This was a nice change from the 2 years of Covid lockdown and was well attended.

Large Locks will be empty-take the kids to see!

1?? Emergency
2?? Government,
3?? Commercial, then
4?? Recreational
Mariners may experience delays, depending on passage demand.
The large lock will reopen 8:00 p.m. Nov. 23.
Thanks for your patience as we complete our much-needed annual maintenance work.

Great Washington ShakeOut

October 20 @ 10:17 am – 10:30 am

Most of Washington is prone to earthquakes. You could be anywhere when an earthquake strikes: at home, at work, at school or even on vacation.

What we do now will determine our quality of life after our next big earthquake. Are you prepared to survive and recover quickly?

The Great Washington ShakeOut is a statewide opportunity to practice how to be safer during big earthquakes: “Drop, Cover and Hold On.” The ShakeOut has also been organized to encourage you, your community, your school, or your organization to review and update emergency preparedness plans and supplies, and to secure your space in order to prevent damage and injuries.

Note…there may be practice alarms and radio messages at this time.

Shilshole Marina Survey

To all Shilshole tenants…please fill out their survey in your email inbox!  This is an important way to express our concerns about marina security to the staff.  If you need further details, please email the Port at sbm@portseattle.org.

It’s time for the Port of Seattle to step up security at Shilshole Marina

The Port of Bellingham is increasing security at Squalicum Harbor in response to the rise in local crime rates.

Gates are being installed along with better lighting, alarm systems and security cameras, as well as increasing security patrols and tenant awareness. A recent article in the Bellingham Herald stated Port spokesperson Mike Hogan as saying “Providing a safe environment for Port customers, Port employees and community members is a top priority for the Port.” (1)

“The Bellingham Police Department’s incident log shows that officers have been called to the 700 or 800 block of Coho Way 33 times since Jan. 1, The Bellingham Herald found. Of those 33, more than half were for theft (13 incidents) or vehicle prowling (seven incidents).”(1)

So far in 2022 at Shilshole Marina, there have been 92 incidents reported to the Port of Seattle Police since Jan 1. Of those, there were 9 vehicle thefts, and 25 prowls and thefts that resulted in damage and loss.  The remaining reported incidents consisted of, suspicious activities, mental health issues, hit and runs, assault, vandalism, intoxicated subjects, boat incidents, and various other issues. There were many other incidents that occurred around the marina that were unfortunately not reported. There were 170 reported incidents at Shilshole in 2021.

Tenants of Shilshole are being forced to take precautions since the Port of Seattle isn’t stepping up security measure at Shilshole. Head of Port security, Russ Read has claimed there’s no budget for it.(2)
