WA State Parks Boating Guide Survey

Please see the notice and survey below from the Washington State Parks….

Ahoy, boaters!

Can you spare a few moments?

Did you know that Washington State Parks manages 19 marine state parks and numerous parks with boating access, such as freshwater lakes and marine shorelines?

We’re looking to publish a comprehensive Boating Guide to give you more information about these parks, such as what types of moorage are available, what kinds of amenities can be found, how much it costs for overnight moorage and more.

But before we proceed, we’d like to know if there’s a genuine interest from boaters like you.

Please fill out our survey and let us know if you’d be interested in a Washington State Parks Boating Guide.

The survey takes just 5 minutes. By filling it out, you are eligible to win a free life jacket. Deadline to complete the survey is Friday, Jan. 15.

Thank you!

Do you know what to do when this happens?

It’s Christmastime-a time for peace, family, and good feelings.  But, unfortunately, life can get in the way-we’ve spent 9 months with the CoVid and now we have this reminder…

This just happened today (Tues Dec 22nd) Train carrying crude oil derails, catches fire in Whatcom County (mynorthwest.com)

We have tracks right next to the marina with 50+ trains per day and a big curve at Golden Gardens.  Very long oil and coal trains transit our neighborhood. These wont go away as this is a major corridor of commerce, but…

Area you prepared?  Can you leave your slip on a moments notice?  Do your children know the procedure?  We’ve talked about this for years on this Blog with Shilshole Prepares and it is why we do our prep, our V-Man communication, and have regular discussion about this.

Put it on your list to discuss with your family in the new year.

Some Parking Lot Entrances Closed

In the interest of security and reducing the number of unwanted prowlers, the marina parking lot will be closed at all entrances, except those just south and north of the Admin building, between 9pm and 5am.  This is what was done last winter and during the busy park season this summer.  The Port’s email is as follows…

Beginning Friday, December 4th, Shilshole staff will be closing marina driveway entrances to limit the number of access points for vehicles arriving or departing the marina. Entrances will close at around 9:00 PM and will reopen at 5:00 AM. Initially, the two most southern and the two most northern entrances will be closed overnight.

Following the demolition of the old M-4 Restroom building and the asphalt repaving in that area, all driveway entrances will close except for the two that are adjacent to the Marina Office Building.

We encourage you to reach out with questions or concerns. Please continue to practice social distancing during this time.

Security Issues

On our Monday night VHF checkin (Mondays, 8pm ch 71), a main topic of conversation was the outboard thefts on J/K docks. According to Marina security, there is a:

White 24 foot sailboat with green moss on the top; with a White male, about 5′ 6″-5’8”, dark hair that has been observed in the area, usually after 8pm. He sometimes moors on the pumpout or fuel docks (@3-5 am) but quickly leaves when someone approaches.  He/they also use a dark grey skiff with a black motor

He has had a prior run in with the port Police and is quick to leave the area when security gets close. He has a very faint WN reg number, so it’s been difficult to catch him. Please…
1) Lock your outboard/cover it up (out of site out of mind)
2) If you see this boat/person cruising the fairways, please call the port immediately at 206-601-4089
3) Some boats on J/K have installed motion sensors-be vigilant

Thanks. Its neighbors looking out for neighbors…
