Fishermans Fall Festival, Sept 13th

The Festival celebrates the return of the North Pacific fishing fleet to the terminal, works to increase the public’s knowledge of the importance of the fishing industry as well as Fishermen’s Terminal to Seattle while raising money for the Seattle Fishermen’s Memorial Foundation. This is an all-volunteer event that depends on over 200 volunteers for its success.

The Festival provides families with a fun and educational outing on the waterfront as well as an opportunity to learn more about seafood. Hands-on art projects with fishing themes, including the popular wooden boat building and “Fishing for Fun” fish pond, are complementary for all children and admission to the Festival is free.

Race Your House-Sat, Sept 13th!

Here’s a chance to put away the flower pots, roll up the floor mats and take your “house” for a spin.  It’s a fun “race” around the buoys open to all liveaboard sailboats. You don’t have to have any racing experience! …and there’s plenty of time to plan ahead!

A Skippers meeting will be online at 7:00 pm Friday, Sept. 12th. See the race instructions for details.

Sea-Star Wasting Disease cause discovered!

As anyone that has been around saltwater for the past decade has noticed, the Sea Stars (aka starfish) have all disappeared. They were affected by a bacteria that caused them to basically “melt”. They are just now starting to recover (if the seagulls will leave them alone).

The UofW has worked to finally discover the cause…

Cruising Puget Sound

Puget Sound cruising is commonly divided into South-Sound (south of the Tacoma Narrows), Mid-Sound (Gig Harbor/Tacoma to Kingston/Edmonds) and North Sound (up to Port Townsend or Oak Harbor). There are great cruising, anchoring, crabbing and fishing areas in all three.

If you have some thoughts, experiences or suggestions for those looking to venture out, especially those new to boating, please share with us on this blog. For example…
