Beware Deceptive Solicitation for USCG Doc Renewal
Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) Consumer Protection Department is advising boaters with vessels having a US Coast Guard Certificate of Documentation to be wary of any letter arriving by US mail offering renewal. An increasing number of BoatUS members have complained that these letters direct them to websites that may be mistaken for the actual US Coast Guard Vessel Documentation Center located in Falling Waters, West Virginia, and appear to show a significant increase in the annual fee to renew US Coast Guard (USCG) documentation.

Weekly “Swap Meet”
Many of us have unused boat parts laying around or are looking for a good buy on a needed item. One way to get your information out is with the weekly V-Man checkin.
Every Monday evening at 8pm, VHF channel 71, boats at Shilshole Marina turn on their VHF radios to practice radio protocol, hear the latest security announcements, offers to buy, sell or trade items, and to do a dock by dock roll call. It is a directed net which means there is someone moderating the conversations so all can participate without confusion or conflict. Check out more info at Shilshole V-Man

Restroom Construction update
Last night the Port had a meeting at CYC to show their 60% design stage for their $8 million Restroom/parking lot construction project. About 30 tenants and Port representatives were in attendance. Because the 2nd story addition did not make financial sense, there are going to be (2) 2600 sq foot and (1) 800 sq ft buildings. The two larger ones will have restrooms, showers and laundry; the smaller one will have family restrooms and showers. Geothermal and solar will provide the heat and lighting for the 2 larger buildings. M2 and M5 will stay after construction to use as utility rooms. M4 and M6 will be demolished. The laundry units will double from current levels. Restrooms and showers will have radiant floor heat for comfort and drying. Showers will be operated with a fob for security and to eliminate quarters. There will be a covered bike storage areas for about 48 bikes. Construction is expected to begin next spring (2018) and be completed by late fall.
