Crab Season shortened

This year’s Puget Sound Dungeness Crab season is open Thursdays through Mondays, July 4 – Aug. 3.  If you are going north, then the season extends into September.  You can get your license at Fred Meyer or online, and be sure to read the regulations and follow them…the Fish and Game Wardens are actively patrolling the area, even if you don’t see them.

City Council Candidates Forum-Nordic Museum

Here’s your chance to interact with community members and hear in person from candidates on a wide range of issues for this important local election. The Seattle City Council primary election is August 6.

Seattle City Council District 6 encompasses the greater Ballard area, as well as Green Lake, Phinney Ridge, Fremont, and part of Greenwood. This panel will cover at-large issues as well as providing focus on Ballard-specific topics.

SLA Annual Meeting notes

On Tues. April 30th, the Shilshole Liveaboard Association (SLA) held their Annual Meeting at the CYC clubhouse.  It was open to all authorized liveaboards at Shilshole and was posted on the gates and the Shilshole Blog for the past month.  It ran from 7pm to 8:30pm and there were 34 attendees.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

The Shilshole Liveaboard Assoc. strongly supports individual and community preparation for times of emergency.  We have a page here devoted to training and resources.  One of those is FEMA.

FEMA’s Community Emergency Response Team Program trains volunteers to prepare for the types of disasters that their community may face. Through hands-on practice and realistic exercises, CERT members:

WA State Boater Registration Renewal

All yearly registration Decals for boats in Washington State expire June 30th. Per the WA St. Reg. Requirements, all boats with a motor (including tenders) on Federal Waters (Puget Sound, Lake Union and Lake Washington) are required to register and, if not a Federal Documented vessel, must display registration numbers.  It’s easy to do online and the decals are ready the next day at the Ballard Licensing Office or they can be mailed to you.  Tabs can be renewed up to 6 months before expiration so don’t wait for the last minute rush!
