As we know, the parking has been a mess here at Shilshole. With the Mayor’s continued closure of the Golden Gardens parking lot and Golden Gardens Drive, the overflow has adversely affected us here in the marina. The marina manager, Jo, and operations supv., Dale, have added extra security at the north end, have closed off several entrances and are working hard to finalize the ticketing and towing of illegally parked vehicles in our lot. Unfortunately, it is delayed at the Port of Seattle main office and needs our input to facilitate the approval. Here is the contact info of the Port of Seattle Commissioners.

Partial Opening of Golden Gardens Parking
Seattle Parks have announced the opening of the south parking lot at Golden Gardens Park. This should help alleviate the terrible overflow that we have experience in both the marina lot and on the street. read more here: https://www.myballard.com/2020/07/10/golden-gardens-south-end-parking-lot-reopens-today/
Golden Gardens Drive (the road up the hill) needs to be opened up as soon as possible as it is a key evacuation route from the marina in case of fire or earthquake. Please contact SDOT at stayhealthystreets@seattle.gov to let them know your concerns. Thank you!

Golden Gardens Drive Evacuation Route
As you know, Golden Gardens Drive up the hill from the park is closed 24/7 until further notice due to Mayor Durkan’s Safe Streets Initiative. That is fine for upland neighborhoods that have access on all sides of their homes, but for those of us here at Shilshole and the Sunset West Condos, plus all the visitors to the park; Golden Garden’s Drive is an essential route of escape in case of any local emergency/disaster like a marina fire, a train derailment or earthquake/tsunami/landslide.
We need to get this road re-opened. Please express your concerns to the Seattle Dept. of Transportation at StayHealthyStreets@Seattle.gov

Restroom/Laundry June Update
Construction on Shilshole’s three new buildings is on target for opening this summer. The North building is scheduled to open in mid-July while the larger Central and South buildings should open the first week of August. The parking lot paving project will also wrap up mid-August.
A Couple Reminders…
We don’t need the additional stress right now of forgetting something we could have taken care of…
- Your 2021 Boat Registration is due on your boat by June 30th.
- The 2020 marina permit is due on your vehicle by June 15th
- The parking lot repaving will continue for the next couple months, so if you are going to be gone for awhile, contact the marina office to see where you should park so you wont be towed.
- Be sure your car tabs don’t expire while you are gone.
Have a great summer!
Parking in the Marina
Parking has always been a challenge at the marina, but even more so these days with the construction/paving and Golden Gardens closure. A big thank you to the Port for closing off some of the entrances, the additional signage and increased enforcement.
As the paving project moves south, please be aware of the closures and patiently adapt to the frustrations and inconveniences that ensue. They are only temporary and things will be much better when they are done.
New parking enforcement will be taking place soon…please pay attention to the changes. As recently announced by the Port, (contact your dock captain if you haven’t heard):
- The outer 2 rows (white markings) near the street will be free for marina guest parking. All else (blue markings) will be paid permit parking.
- The 1 free parking 2020 permit will be mailed out to tenants that haven’t received theirs yet. The 2nd one can be paid for over the phone and picked up in the office-call first. You have til June 15th to get your permits and after that, the Port will begin towing.
A reminder-vehicles need to be moved every 15 days. If you will be gone cruising for longer than that, please contact the marina office and then park in the outer rows as courtesy to your neighbors that are still here.
Port/Dock Captain meeting
This past Wednesday was our Dock Captains’ meeting with the Port to get their latest updates to share with our dockmates. Here are the notes from that meeting…
Updated Marina Operations re: CoVid19
Here is an updated statement from the marina office…
Updated Shilshole Procedures/Closures
Shilshole tenants just received this notice via email which will help explain the closure of some of the parking lot entrances and the plaza, etc….
From the marina staff..
We all want go get outside on these nice days, but according to the governor: “If you need to take a car, it’s probably too far. Don’t recreate with those outside your household. Practice strong social distancing and stay at least 6-feet apart when getting fresh air.”
We are immediately implementing the following measures at SBM to support Governor Jay Inslee’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” emergency order.
• Continuing to clean all public areas two times a day.
• Non-liveaboard moorage customers should only visit SBM if your trip is essential.
• Closing public access to the A-Pier and X Dock.
• Placing partial restrictions on access to the parking lot. All vehicle entrances and exits will remain locked except for those immediately north and south of the SBM main building.
• Controlling pedestrian access to the SBM promenade.
• Limiting access to picnic tables and benches along the pedestrian thoroughfare.
• Closing public restrooms at SBM promenade.
Operational staff are on-site and can assist with normal operational requests. Please be patient with staff members as we exercise critical measures of social distancing. Thank you for your patience in this challenging time.

Security on your dock…
During these challenging times, there are many people down from the city to get some fresh air, walk the boardwalk and check out the boats. Some will tailgate onto the docks. Many non-resident tenants have also come down to their boats lately to spend some time.
As liveaboard residents it is incumbent upon us to “know our neighbors”. When you see someone “new” on the dock-especially if they are “just looking around”…be it guests of a neighbor or new tenants, introduce yourself and ask them “how can I help you?”, “who are you looking for?”. Continue reading
